Varsity Track & Field Finishes 2025 Season at GHSA State Meet

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Track and Field season came to close over the weekend at Carrollton High School.

MV placed high in multiple events.

Below is a recap of the event.

The Varsity Girls Track and Field team had the most medals for any team in program history as well as the most state qualifiers.

The first medal of the day for MV started with silver by State Runner-Up, Freshman Morgan Huggins in the Girls 1600M Championships. Huggins blazed to a new school record, a personal best and a Georgia Top 50 time of 5:10.01.

The Day 2 Finals produced more Medals for the Mustangs starting with Senior Kennedy Reynolds earning State Runner-Up and a personal best in the Girls 100M Hurdles.

Next to make the podium was freshman Alexis Kendall who raced to a Top-8 finish and a new school record in the Girls 800M dash. (2:24.46).

The Girls 4x100M relay team, made up of Gracie Boswell, Kennedy Reynolds, Alexis Smith and Cora Champney set a new school record the previous day in the prelims of 49.32 and followed that up by finishing Top-3, earning bronze in Saturday's finals.

With a quick turnaround, Cora Champney and Alexis Smith were back on the podium with a Top-6 and Top-7 finish in the Girls 400M.

For her third medal of the day, Kennedy Reynolds again took home silver in the Girls 300M Hurdles with a new personal best and Georgia Top-10 time of 42.66.

Also earning her third medal of the day, Cora Champney finished Top 4 in the Girls 200M.

Already the State Runner-up in the Girls 1600M, Morgan Huggins took to the track next for the Girls 3200M and ran a perfectly executed race plan to win the Girls 3200m State Championship with a new school record and Georgia Top-50 time of 11:15.51.

The final and most exciting event of the day, the Girls 4x400M Relay, made up of Morgan Huggins, Kennedy Reynolds, Cora Champney and Alexis Smith took home Silver and State Runner-Up with another New School record and a Georgia Top-10 time of 3:54.26
