ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team has started the 2025 season on the right foot, winning its first three games in as many tries.
MV opened the season with a 16-1 victory over North Atlanta on August 5 followed by a 12-4 win against Pace Academy on August 6.
The Mustangs also picked up a 9-1 win against North Springs on Wednesday, August 13 to kick off the Battle of Sandy Springs Tournament.
Below are game notes and highlights from each contest.
NORTH SPRINGS W, 9-1 (August 13)
Alex Schiff drove in four runs and was 2-for-3 at the plate.
MV led 1-0 after the first inning, 4-0 after the third and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the run-rule into effect.
Taylor D'Auria, Bella Durkee, and Mamie Bowen each had one RBI.
Ella Clockadale scored three runs while Priscilla Andrin and Olivia McDougall scored twice.
Three Mustangs had a multi-hit game: Andrin (3), Schiff (2), Olivia McDougall (2) and Taylor D'Auria (2).
Durkee picked up the win in the circle for MV with four strikeouts.
PACE ACADEMY W, 12-4 (August 6)
After trailing 3-1 after the second inning, MV outscored the Knights 11-1 over the next three frames to earn the win.
Clockadale totaled three hits while Schiff, Andrin, and Durkee finished with two RBI each.
McDougall picked up the win in the circle, allowing four runs (two earned) with four strikeouts.
NORTH ATLANTA W, 16-1 (August 5)
Schiff finished with 4 RBI and Clockadale drive in three runs as MV run-ruled the North Atlanta Warriors in three innings, 16-1.
The duo of Clockadale and Schiff combined for five of MV's six hits on the day.
MV led 2-1 after the first inning and outscored the Warriors 14-0 over the next two frames.
McDougall was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts, one walk and just one hit allowed.
The Mustangs return to play on Saturday, August 16 to close out the Battle of Sandy Springs Tournament.
MV faces Holy Innocents at 9 a.m. and Riverwood at 1:30 p.m.
Both games will be played at the Upper Campus Softball Field.
