Varsity Softball Claims Battle of Sandy Springs Tournament Title

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball Team captured its fourth Sandy Springs City Tournament Championship last week.

The Mustangs have now won the tournament four of the last five years.

Below are short recaps of the games.









RIVERWOOD (W, 2-1 on August 16)

Olivia McDougall tossed a 2-hitter and allowed just one run as the Mustangs won in their final at-bat to claim the tournament title.

With nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Dillan Pajot scored on a wild pitch to win the game.

MV led 1-0 after the first inning but Riverwood tied the game at 1-1 in the third.

McDougall struck out two batters on the day and escaped numerous jams while in the circle.

Ella Clockadale finished with two hits on the day.



HOLY INNOCENTS (W, 8-1 on August 16)

The Bears led 1-0 after the first inning but the Mustang offense came alive, scoring the final eight runs of the game.

Olivia McDougall finished with three hits and drove in two runs while Ella Clockadale, Alex Schiff and Taylor D'Auria recorded multi-hit games.

Kirsten Abbott had two RBI's and teammate Priscilla Andrin drove in one run.

Bella Durkee picked up the win in the circle with six strikeouts and two walks.



NORTH SPRINGS (W, 9-1 on August 13)

MV kicked off the Battle of Sandy Springs Tournament with a 9-1 win over the North Springs Spartans in five innings.

MV led 1-0 after the first inning and scored eight runs over the final four innings to bring the run-rule into effect.

Alex Schiff drove in four runs and went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Talor D'Auria, Bella Durkee and Mamie Bowen each had one RBI as well as the Mustangs outhit the Spartans 12-5 on the day.

Priscilla Andrin was 3-for-4 including a double and triple.

Bella Durkee earned the win in the circle allowing just two hits with four strikeouts.



The Mustangs are back in action on Tuesday, August 19 hosting Whitefield Academy to open up region play.

First pitch against the Wolfpack is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Mustang Park.
