ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team kept to its winning ways this week, extending their winning streak to 10 with victories over Cambridge High School and Whitefield Academy.
Most recently, MV defeated Whitefield 13-4 in six innings on Thursday, Sept. 4 at Mustang Park.
The Mustangs scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the run-rule into effect, highlighted by a 3-run home run by Taylor D'Auria that sealed the win.
Olivia Stonecipher, Alex Schiff, and Priscilla Andrin combined for five RBI's in the eight-run sixth.
MV led 2-0 at the end of the first inning thanks to a RBI groundout by Schiff.
The WolfPack took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on an Annabelle Gallacher fielder's choice and a Reece O'Connor groundout.
MV reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on RBI hits from Stonecipher and Ella Clockadale.
Bella Durkee picked up the win in the circle, allowing four runs over four innings with three strikeouts and two walks.
Olivia McDougall pitched two innings of relief and struck out one batter.
MV also picked up a thrilling 8-5 win over Cambridge High School on Wednesday, Sept. 3 on the road.
The Bears led 3-0 after the first inning and 4-3 at the end of the third frame.
A tie game after the fourth, both teams battled to extra innings with the Mustangs scoring three runs in the ninth to secure the win.
Mia Winokur, D'Auria and Andrin each finished with two RBI's.
Clockadale and Schiff scored three runs apiece as well.
McDougall earned the win in the circle, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts and four walks.
Mount Vernon (10-0, 2-0 Reg. 5-1A) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, traveling to play a round-robin tournament at Temple High School.
MV will play Temple High School at 12 p.m. followed by a game against Alexander High School at 2:30 p.m.
