ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team defeated the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack 14-6 in five innings on Saturday, Oct. 4 at King's Ridge Christian School in the first round of the Region 5-1A Tournament.
MV led 6-0 after two innings and outscored the Wolfpack 8-0 over the final three innings to bring the run rule into effect.
Ella Clockadale finished with four RBI's while teammate Bella Durkee drove in three on three hits.
Six Mustangs recorded a multi-hit game: Durkee (3), Clockadale (2), Priscilla Andrin (2), Mamie Bown (2), and Alex Schiff (2).
MV outhit Whitefield 15-5 and played flawless defense with no errors.
Mollie Martin picked up the win in the circle, tossing two innings and allowing three runs.
Durkee pitched three innings surrendering three runs.
Mount Vernon (19-5) returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 7, traveling to Wesleyan to play the Wolves in the semifinal round.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Agape Field at Wren Stadium.
