ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team picked up its second win and as many tries on Friday, Oct. 24, defeating the King's Ridge Christian School Tigers 24-17 on Senior Night at Ron Hill Field.

Mount Vernon got on the board first at the 5:57 mark of the first quarter when Harrison Mills ran in a 9-yard touchdown. Nico Tur would make the extra point to give MV a 7-0 advantage in the early going.

After a King's Ridge fumble that was recovered by Henry Maxwell, the Mustangs added another score with 4:58 to play in the first period on a Keon Cleland 18-yard run. Tur made the PAT to give Mount Vernon a 14-0 lead.

The Tigers scored on their second offensive possession on an Austin Drye 53-yard rush. Max Cuzdey booted the extra point through to cut the MV lead to 14-7 with 4:42 remaining in the open quarter.

MV's next score would come from the left foot of Nico Tur, who nailed a 44-yard field goal attempt eight seconds into the second quarter for a 17-7 Mustang lead.

King's Ridge answered with a field goal of their own when Cuzdey connected on a 25-yard field goal with 4:44 to play in the first half to make it a 17-10 game.

MV would answer on its next drive to close out the half on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Cleland to Taurean Rawlins. Tur was good again on the PAT and MV went into the locker room ahead 24-10 at intermission.

The lone score of the second half came in the third quarter from the Tigers at the 1:14 mark when Drye punched in a 1-yard touchdown rush and Cuzdey kicked the PAT to bring King's Ridge within one score at 24-17.

Cleland finished the game 10-of-17 passing for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The junior also rushed for 134 yards on 18 attempts to lead the Mustang ground attack.

Senior Harrison Mills surpassed the century mark with 101 yards on 15 carries.

Rawlins paced the Mustangs in receiving, hauling in eight catches for 129 yards.

Senior Rigby Anderson was active on the defensive side of the ball for MV, totaling nine tackles.

Teammates Jackson Scotchie and Ethan Siggers each finished with six wrap-ups.

MV (4-5) returns to action to close out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 31 traveling to play Mount Paran Christian School in the Region 5-1A Crossover.

Kickoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Catherine Steele Sewell Stadium.
