VARSITY GIRLS AND BOYS CROSS COUNTRY DOMINATE SECTIONALS, QUALIFY FOR GHSA STATE MEET

Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country Dominate Sectionals, Qualify for GHSA State Meet

ROME, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country teams were in action over the weekend at GHSA Sectionals with both teams posting memorable performances en route to qualifying for the State Meet.

Racing at The Darlington School course, the Varsity Girls placed first overall with 44 points and the Varsity Boys took fourth with 139 points.

In the Varsity Girls race, four Mustangs finished inside the Top-10, highlighted by Morgan Huggins' first place finish (18:45), 59 seconds better than the runner-up.

Other Mustangs in the Top-10 were Alexis Kendall (5th - 20:03), Lizzie Mueller (6th - 20:09) and Emma-Neal Medlin (7th - 20:16).

In the Varsity Boys race, Haris Flynn captured another first place title with a time of 16:28.

Two other Mustangs finished in the Top-30: Will Vansant (25th - 18:08) and Henry Miller (28th - 18:13).

In the Varsity Boys "Second Seven" race, JJ Middleton placed first overall with a time of 18:14.

Mount Vernon will close out the 2025 season at the GHSA State Meet on Friday, Nov. 7 at Carrollton High School Cross Country Course.

The Varsity Boys will race at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Varsity Girls at 11:15 a.m.
