ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up two impressive wins over Thanksgiving Break, defeating Hebron Christian Academy 59-56 on Nov. 22 followed by a 65-49 win over Marist on Nov. 24.
In the game against Hebron Christian, MV jumped out to a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Hebron Christian responded with a 20-19 run in the second period to trail 33-27 at halftime.
MV held off a second half surge from Hebron Christian to take the win.
Darrell Dickens led the team in scoring with 21 points, including three made 3-pointers.
Noah Brady added 13 points while Gabe Alterman totaled 12.
In the game against Marist, MV led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and 29-19 at halftime.
Mount Vernon outscored Marist 33-31 in the second half to seal the win.
Four Mustangs finished in double-figures scoring: Quint McGrath (15), JJ Page (12), Dickens (11) and Alterman (10).
MV cashed in front behind the arc, making nine 3-pointers.
The Mustangs were also 8-for-10 from the free throw line.
Mount Vernon (5-0) returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 2, opening up region play against B.E.S.T. Academy.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Campus Gymnasium.
