JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball teams picked up region wins over the weekend, both defeating the Mount Pisgah Christian School Patriots on the road at the Drummond Center on Friday, Jan. 16.
In the Varsity Girls game, the Mustangs won 31-26.
MV led 13-10 at halftime but a third quarter surge by the Patriots resulted in a 22-19 lead for Mount Pisgah at the end of three quarters.
Mount Vernon mounted a comeback, outscoring the Patriots 11-4 in the final period to secure the win.
Bella Champney led all scorers with 11 points while teammate Madison Davies finished with 10 points.
In the Varsity Boys game, the Mustangs cruised to an 84-27 win over the Patriots.
Four players finished in double figures scoring for the Mustangs: Noah Brady (23), Darrell Dickens, III (13), Gabe Alterman (10) and Quint McGrath (10).
MV was active all night on the offensive end with 11 different players tallying at least one point.
Brady finished with eight rebounds and Tripp Jackson pulled down seven boards.
Mount Vernon took care of the basketball, finishing with just eight turnovers as a team.
The Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 20, traveling to King's Ridge Christian School for another region match-up.
Tip-off for the Varsity Girls game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the Varsity Boys to follow at 7 p.m. in Alpharetta, Ga.
