ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up a region win on Tuesday night, Jan. 27, defeating the Landmark Christian War Eagles 80-46 at the Upper Campus Gymnasium
After leading 27-23 at halftime, MV outscored Landmark Christian 55-23 in the second half of play to put the game away for good.
Senior Darrell Dickens, III lead the Mustangs in scoring with 19 points.
Junior Quint McGrath was in double-figures scoring with 17 points along with classamate Chase Daniels, who totaled 10 points.
McGrath led MV in rebounding, pulling down seven boards.
Daniels, Dickens III, Tripp Jackson and Grant Reynolds finished with five rebounds each.
Jamaal Oliver racked up seven assists in the game as well.
Mount Vernon shot the ball well, finishing at 41.7 percent from the field that included 50 points in the paint.
The Mustangs were active on the defensive end, forcing Landmark Christian into 22 turnovers in the game.
On Friday, Jan. 23, MV bested Whitefield Academy 59-37 at home.
Dickens, III finished with a game-high 22 points, 12 of those coming from behind the 3-point line.
Noah Brady tallied 14 points and seven rebounds as well.
MV (18-2, 10-1 Reg. 5-1A DI) returns to play on Friday, Jan. 30, hosting the Paideia School in another region contest.
Tip-off against the Pythons is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
