ATLANTA - Opening Day 2026 was a memorable one for the Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team as the Mustangs defeated the North Atlanta High School Warriors 5-2 at Mustang Park on Monday, Feb. 9.

MV scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning when Hudson Forrest came in on a Warrior infield error for a 1-0 lead.

North Atlanta took a brief 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning, but MV responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Mustangs tied the game with a Forrest RBI single that scored Graham Cawthon.

Two batters later, Jacob Dockter singled to plate Forrest for a 3-2 Mustang advantage.

Mount Vernon picked up two key insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to go ahead 5-2.

Justin Jordan scored after stealing a base and Forrest drove in Cawthon with a double.

Hayes Hudson earned the win on the mound for MV, throwing 1.2 innings with one strikeout and one walk.

Dockter picked up the save, recording the final two outs of the game.

The Mustang pitching crew of Matthew Trent, Elliott Shiver, Hudson and Dockter limited North Atlanta to just two hits on the day.

Mount Vernon (1-0) returns to the diamond on Saturday, Feb. 14, hosting Archer High School and North Springs.

First pitch against Archer is scheduled for 11 a.m. with the North Springs game starting at 3 p.m. at Mustang Park.
