ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team collected two wins over the holiday weekend, defeating the North Springs Spartans 10-0 in five innings on Saturday, Feb.14 followed by a 15-0 rout of Morrow High School on Monday, Feb. 16.
In the game against Morrow High School, MV posted seven runs in the first inning, five in the second and added three more in the third to bring the run rule into effect.
Rigby Anderson, Graham Cawthon, and Will Flowers had two hits each for the Mustangs.
One of the hits for Flowers was a 2-run home run in the first inning.
Harrison Mills scored three runs while Carson Albert, Anderson, and Cawthon scored twice.
MV totaled 11 hits, six of which were extra-base hits.
Jacob Dockter and Devin Sonenshine combined to throw a no-hitter over three innings, combining for five strikeouts.
On Saturday afternoon, MV bested North Springs 10-0 in five innings at Mustang Park.
MV scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and four more in the third.
Mount Vernon brought the run rule into effect in the fifth frame with three more runs.
Anderson, Flowers and Hayes Hudson each had two hits.
Hudson Forrest earned the win on the mound for the Mustangs.
The senior tossed five innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four batters.
Mount Vernon (3-1) returns to action on Thursday, March 5 traveling to IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL.
First pitch against the Ascenders is slated for 2 p.m.
