ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team bested the Mount Paran Christian School Eagles 78-66 on Monday night, Feb. 16 in the Region Tournament Quarterfinals at the Upper Campus Gym.
MV will now play in the Semifinals on Wednesday night, Feb. 18.
The Mustangs led 19-16 at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Eagles 19-6 in the second period to lead 38-22 at halftime.
Mount Vernon added 22 more points in the third quarter while the Eagles netted 20, sending the game to the final quarter with the Mustangs ahead 60-42.
MV held off a late 24-18 run from the Eagles to preserve the win.
Noah Brady finished with a team-high 25 points, including 16 in the second half.
Darrell Dickens, III, who was honored prior to the game for scoring 1,000 career points earlier this season, finished with 20 points.
Gabe Alterman posted 13 points and Chase Daniels put up 11 points to round out MV's double-digit scorers.
The Mustangs finished with six made 3-pointers in the contest and went 14-of-20 from the free throw line as a team.
Shane Goines had a game-high 30 points for the Eagles.
MV (23-3, 15-1 Reg. 5-1A DI) returns to action on Wendesday night, Feb. 18, taking on the Walker School in the Region Tournament Semifinals at Weber School.
The Mustangs defeated the Wolverines 63-60 in overtime on Jan. 9.
Tip-off for Wednesday's semifinal game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
