Varsity Baseball Earns Walk-Off Win Over Piedmont Academy, 4-3

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team earned a walk-off win on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, defeating the Piedmont Academy Cougars 4-3 in eight innings at Mustang Park.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and tied at 3-3, Carson Albert drove a pitch down the left field line that scored Nolan Grafton to give the Mustangs the victory.

MV jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of third inning, the first run coming on a Bobby Bastek triple to score Harrison Mills.

Bastek scored later in the inning on a throwing error by the Cougars infield.

The Mustangs pushed their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Hudson Forrest single that plated Bastek.

Piedmont Academy got one run back in the top of the sixth inning when Jamus Wingate singled to plate Kouper Burrell.

The Cougars rallied in the top of the seventh inning, scoring two runs to tie the game at 3-3.

Levi Malin singled to bring in Nic Gervasio followed by a Zach Simmons base hit that brought in Jack Adams.

MV had one base-runner in the bottom of the seventh inning but could do no more, sending the game to extras.

In the bottom of the eighth, Will Flowers reached on a 1-out single and Rigby Anderson followed with a walk.

Albert struck with his heroics two batters later to seal the walk-off for MV.

Flowers earned the win for the Mustangs on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while allowing two runs with four strikeouts and two walks.

Forrest started the game for MV and threw 5.1 innings, surrendering one run with five strikeouts and four walks.

Mount Vernon (4-3) returns to the diamond on Thursday, March 12 traveling to Piedmont Academy for another matchup with the Cougars.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Monticello, GA.
