SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team picked up a region win on Monday afternoon, March 23, defeating the Weber School Rams 10-6 on the road.
MV got on the board early, scoring a run on a Will Flowers sacrifice fly to center field that plated Justin Jordan for a 1-0 lead.
Weber tied the gam at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning but MV reclaimed the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning.
Jacob Dockter doubled to bring in Carson Albert and Graham Cawthon singled in Dockter later in the inning for a 3-1 Mustang lead.
MV made it 4-1 in the top of the fourth on a Collin Roberts double to bring in Flowers.
The Rams cut the Mustang lead in half in the bottom of the third inning.
The Mustangs got the run back in the top of the fourth on a Graham Cawthon solo home run to right field to go up 5-2.
MV added three more runs in the inning that included RBI hits from Roberts and Albert to push the lead to 9-2.
The last run for the Mustangs came via a Hudson Forrest solo home run in the top of the sixth to put MV ahead 10-2.
Weber attempted a comeback but fell short, scoring a combined four runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Forrest picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.
The righty tossed 5.1 innings, allowing three runs (all earned) with four strikeouts and three walks.
Devin Sonenshine threw 1.2 innings of relief as well.
Mount Vernon (7-5, 2-1 Reg. 5-1A DI) returns to action on Wednesday, March 25, hosting Walker School in another region contest.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Mustang Park.
