SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up two wins on Thursday night, August 6, defeating the North Springs Spartans 15-3 before a 12-0 rout of Holy Innocents at the Morgan Falls Athletic Fields.

Both games were part of the Sandy Springs City Championship tournament that is held annually at the start of the season.

In the game against North Springs, the Mustangs used a nine-run second inning to pull away for good.

Taylor D'Auria, Bella Durkee, Mamie Bowen and Annabelle Thompson each had two RBI for the Mustangs.

Alex Schiff, Olivia Stonecipher, Dillan Pajot, Kennedy Darweesh and Caroline Birdsey also drove in one run apiece.

The Mustangs totaled eight extra base hits in the contest, with Mamie Bowen recording a double and a home run.

Darweesh picked up the win in the circle, tossing four innings while allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

In the nightcap against Holy Innocents, MV kept the bats hot with a 12-0 win in four innings.

The Mustangs scored six runs in the second inning and six more in the third to bring the run-rule into effect.

D'Auria racked up four RBI's with two triples while Pajot drove in four runs.

Durkee and Birdsey each accounted for two RBI's as well.

Durkee picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs, surrendering just one hit with five strikeouts and one walk.

Mount Vernon (2-1) returns to action on Wednesday, August 12, hosting Wesleyan School.

First pitch against the Wolves is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Mustang Park.
