ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up a key region victory on Thursday, August 20, defeating the Mount Paran Christian School Eagles 4-1 at Mustang Park.

MV took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an Eagle infield error.

After three scoreless innings ensued, MV would add on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead on a Bella Durkee double that scored Ella Clockadale and Taylor D'Auria.

The Eagles plated one run in the top of the sixth inning on a Sophia Blane double to make it a 3-1 contest.

The Mustangs scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Hollyn Clockadale came home a wild pitch for a 4-1 advantage.

Durkee earned the win in the circle for MV, allowing just one run on four hits.

The righty struck out seven batters while surrendering just one walk.

The Mustangs also played in a round-robin tournament on Saturday, August 22 at Providence Christian Academy.

MV dropped the first game to Grayson High School 8-2 and came up short against Providence, 8-3.

Mount Vernon (6-3, 1-0 Reg. 9-2A) returns to play on Saturday, August 29, hosting a round-robin tournament.

The Mustangs square off against Blessed Trinity at 10 a.m. and will close out the day against Temple High School at 2:30 p.m. at Mustang Park.
