MABLETON, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team outlasted the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack on Friday night, August 28, winning 34-28 in overtime in non-region play at Wolfpack Stadium.

Keon Clealand rushed in a touchdown from four yards out to give MV the walk-off win after the Mustang defense stymied Whitefield in overtime.

A back-and-forth battle all game, MV got on the board with a 35-yard touchdown from AJ Rahal to Taurean Rawlins on the first play of the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7.

The Mustangs took a 14-7 lead on a Terrence Edwards, II touchdown catch midway through the second quarter.

Whitefield would answer late in the second period to tie the game at 14-14.

MV received the second half kickoff that was capped off by a Keon Clealand six yard touchdown run to give MV a 21-14 lead, a score that would stand by the end of the the third quarter.

Whitefield posted two scores on back-to-back offensive possessions, both coming from Landon Ryan touchdown runs in the fourth quarter to push the Wolfpack ahead 28-21.

The Mustangs responded with a 48-yard touchdown reception by Taurean Rawlins that tied the game with 1:58 to play in the game.

Rahal finished 14-for-20 for 160 yards and three touchdowns.

Rawlins hauled in nine catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns while Gavin Steele posted 62 yards on 11 carries.

Kicker Pierce Bhamornsiri was a perfect 4-for-4 on his PAT's as well.

Mount Vernon (2-0) returns to action on Friday, Sept. 4, traveling to play Holy Innocents (2-0) for the first time since the 2021 season.

Kickoff against the Bears is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Baker Field.
