Varsity Softball Picks Up Wins Over Blessed Trinity and Temple High School

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up two weekend victories on Saturday, August 29, defeating Blessed Trinity 10-5 before a 13-8 run-rule win over Temple High School at Mustang Park.

Against the Blessed Trinity Titans, MV plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never relinquished the lead.

MV added three more runs in the bottom of the third, another in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Ella Clockadale was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.

Mamie Bowen, Hollyn Clockadale and Olivia Stonecipher each finished with two RBI's.

Alex Schiff, Bella Durkee and Kennedy Darweesh drove in one run apiece as well.

Durkee picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs tossing seven innings while allowing five runs (four earned) with seven strikeouts and six walks.

MV struck out just twice in 36 plate appearances on the day.

In the game against the Temple Tigers, MV secured a 13-5 win in five innings.

The Mustang bats stayed hot, scoring six runs in the first three innings of play.

MV added seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring the run rule into effect.

Ella Clockadale continued her good fortune at the dish with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double and a home run.

Schiff, Stonecipher, and Caroline Birdsey each drove in two runs while Durkee and Hollyn Clockadale netted one RBI.

Mount Vernon (8-3) returns to play on Tuesday, Sept. 1, traveling to Mount Paran Christian School for a region game against the Eagles.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Carroll Field.
