Varsity Softball Takes Road Game at Marist, 5-4

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up a key victory on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9, defeating the Marist School War Eagles 5-4 at Kitchin Field.

MV jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Ella Clockadale scored on a wild pitch.

An inning later, Dillan Pajot hit a sacrifice fly that scored Hollyn Clockadale for a 2-0 Mustang advantage.

The Mustangs picked up three more runs in the top of the third inning, the first coming on a Bella Durkee RBI single that brought in Taylor D'Auria.

Two more runs came in on an Olivia Stonecipher RBI single to plate Lily Snyder and Mamie Bowen to put MV ahead 5-0.

Marist got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on a Megan Snipes 2-run home run to make it a 5-2 game.

After two scoreless frames, the War Eagles added two more runs on an EG Lamb 2-run home run for a 5-4 contest.

Bella Durkee picked up the win in the circle for MV.

The righty tossed seven innings, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) with four strikeouts.

The Mustangs out-hit Marist 11-6 as well.

Mount Vernon (10-4) returns to play on Thursday, Sept. 10, traveling to Walker School.

First pitch against the Wolverines is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Allgood Sports Complex in Marietta, GA.
