ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up its fourth consecutive win on Wednesday night, Sept. 16, defeating the Westminster School Wildcats at Mildred Neal Scott Field at KCB Stadium.
Taylor D'Auria collected three hits in five at bats to lead the Mustang charge.
D'Auria tripled in the third inning, tripled in the first inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
The Mustangs got on the board in the first inning after Bella Durkee doubled, scoring one run.
Joy Stallworth singled to center field, which helped Westminster tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
Mount Vernon took the lead in the top of the second. Caroline Birdsey singled and scored a run to give MV the edge, 2-1.
Mount Vernon added to its early lead in the top of the third inning after D'Auria tripled to left field, and Durkee grounded out, each scoring one run.
Durkee earned the win for Mount Vernon Varsity Mustangs. The starter surrendered 11 hits and six runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking five.
MV collected 16 hits in the game. Durkee drove the middle of the lineup, leading the team with four runs batted in.
Olivia Stonecipher, Durkee, and D'Auria each collected three hits.
Mount Vernon (12-4) returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 22, hosting Galloway School in a region double-header.
First pitch against the Scots is scheduled for 4 p.m. with Game 2 following at 5:45 p.m. at Mustang Park.
