MABLETON, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team easily dispatched the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack on Monday, Sept. 28, winning 9-1 in five innings on the road in non-region play.

The Mustangs got on the board in the top of the first inning after Taylor D'Auria singled to center field, Bella Durkee walked, Olivia Stonecipher hit a sacrifice fly, and Hollyn Clockadale flew out, each scoring one run.

Mount Vernon added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Durkee doubled, scoring two runs, and Clockadale singled, scoring one run.

Durkee earned the win for Mount Vernon in the circle.

The hurler allowed six hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking two.

The Mustangs piled up 10 hits in the game with Durkee providing pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the team with two runs batted in.

Ella Clockadale, Alex Schiff, Durkee, and D'Auria each collected two hits for the Mustangs as well.

Mount Vernon (17-5) returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30, hosting Eastside High School.

First pitch against the Eagles is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. at Mustang Park.
