Mustangs Claim High Finishes at Mercy Invitational to Open 2018 Season

FAIRBURN, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity cross country teams were in action on Saturday to open the 2018 season, competing in the Mercy Invitational hosted by Our Lady of Mercy.

The varsity boys finished in fourth place overall in the 16-team race, posting 132 points.

Sutter Guttery crossed the finish line first for the Mustangs in 17th place, clocking in at 18:57 in the 5K race.

Nick Pierce took 23rd with a time of 19:06 while teammate Jason Harvey placed 25th at 19:10.

In girls competition, the Mustangs finished 6th of 11 with 141 points.

Emily Raeside posted a Top-5 finish, crossing the finish line in fourth place at 20:53.

Teammate Audrey O'Toole was 19th overall at 23:38 while Emery Dikeman was 28th at 24:25.

Northgate High School finished atop the list in the boys race with 72 points while Centennial High School took first place in girls competition with 55 points.

The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday, August 25, competing in the Saucony Battle of Atlanta Invitational at Nash Farm Battlefield in Hampton, Ga.

The varsity boys race begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the varsity girls at 8 a.m.
