Cross Country Recap: Saucony Battle of Atlanta Invitational

HAMPTON, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity cross country teams were in action on Saturday, August 25, competing in the Saucony Battle of Atlanta Invitational.

The varsity girls finished 25th of of 30 teams while the varsity boys took 18th of 34.

In girls action, Emily Raeside followed up her strong performance from last week's Mercy Invitational, crossing the finish line in 11th place overall with a time of 20:14.

Josie Meade finished in the Top-150 at 25:05 and Grace Keller finished 180th at 26:25.

Marietta High School finished first overall with 56 points and three runners in the Top-10.

In boys action, the Mustangs finished 18th of 38 teams in the field.

Nick Pierce finished in 33rd place, clocking in at 17:40.

Sutter Guttery and Jason Harvey had a Top-100 finishes for the Mustangs.

Guttery placed 67th overall out of 290 runners at 18:32 while teammate Harvey was 94th at 18:59.

Brookwood High School was the overall winner in boys competition with 95 points.

The Mustangs return to the course on Saturday, Sept. 1, partaking in the AT&T Starrs Mill Panther Invitational.

The varsity girls race gets underway at 8 a.m. followed by the varsity boys at 8:30 a.m. at the Heritage Church Cross Country Course.
