Mustangs Push Win Streak to Six with Victories Over Mt. Bethel and Drew Charter

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity volleyball team pushed its winning streak to six games on Thursday night, sweeping the Mt. Bethel Eagles and the Drew Charter Eagles 2-0 at the Glenn Campus Gymnasium.

In the first match against Mt. Bethel, the Mustangs took the match with a 25-14 win in the first set and a 25-21 victory in the second set.

In the first set, the Mustangs led 10-7 before going on a dominant 10-3 run to seal the win.

The Mustangs were able to hang on in the second set to secure the win.

After leading 16-9, Mt. Bethel surged on 10-3 run to even the set at 19-19.

The Mustangs responded with a 6-1 spurt to close the set and the match.

Mount Vernon finished with 35 digs, 14 kills and 11 aces.

Katie Peddle totaled 10 digs, seven kills and six aces to pace Mount Vernon.

Zoe Stupek finished with 10 digs while Jackie Mecke totaled six. Maddy Estenson also finished with three aces.

In the second match of the night against Drew Charter, the Mustangs cruised to a 2-0 victory, taking the first two sets 25-13 and 25-7.

Mount Vernon finished with 39 digs paced by the 14 from Stupek and 11 from Melina Castellon.

Ella Dawson led the squad with eight assists while Stupek paced the team with five kills.

The Mustangs totaled 16 aces against Drew Charter, led by the seven of Stupek. Anjali Singh finished with three aces as well.

The Mustangs (8-8) are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 11, traveling to Galloway for matches against the Scots and the Holy Innocents Golden Bears.

First serve against Galloway is slated for 5 p.m. followed by Holy Innocents at 6 p.m.
