SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - Wednesday’s Mount Vernon varsity softball home game vs. Pace Academy was suspended due to inclement weather.

The game will be made up at a later date and time to be announced in the coming days per GHSA rules.

After playing three full innings and leading 5-2, heavy downpours soaked the Glenn Campus Softball Field causing a delay in play and forcing the suspension.

The Mustangs jumped on the Knights early, scoring five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning.

Carson Watson singled to right field to bring home Savannah Messner, who reached on a bunt single earlier in the inning for a 1-0 advantage.

Sofia Wise made it a 2-0 Mustang lead on a single to right field that plated Kendall Slayden.

The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Gracie Hudgins.

With the bases loaded and one out, Hudgins smashed a bases-clearing double to right-center field to bring home Bella Dishman, Lauren Waters and Wise for a 5-0 lead.

The Knights picked up two runs in the top of the third inning to cut the Mustang lead to three at 5-2.

Caroline Landis singled to left field to bring in Marissa Goodman followed by a Caelan Corbally fielder's choice that scored Landis.

The Mustangs were retired in order in the bottom of the third inning before the inclement weather halted play.
