Mustangs Sweep Senior Night Matches Against Whitefield and King's Ridge

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity volleyball team extended its winning streak to five games on Thursday night, toppling the Whitefield Wolfpack 2-0 [25-10/25-25] before taking down the King's Ridge Tigers 2-0 [25-18/25-11] at the Glenn Campus Gymnasium on Senior Night.

Leading 12-5 in the first set, Mount Vernon ended the set on a 13-5 run to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, the Mustangs battled back to tie the Wolfpack 8-8 before ending the set and match on a 17-7 run.

Zoe Stupek led the squad with 13 digs, Mackenzie Morris and Ella Dawson each picked up nine assists and Anjali Singh and Maddy Estenson paced the team with five kills each.

The Mustangs totaled seven aces in the victory. Olivia Dawson dropped in three assists while Morris notched two.

In the second match of the night, the Mustangs took the first set over the Tigers 25-18.

Both squads jumped out to a 6-6 tie and battled back and forth until the Mustangs took an 18-15 lead late in the first set. Mount Vernon ended the set on a 7-3 spurt to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, the Mustangs fired on all cylinders.

Mount Vernon pushed its lead to 10-3 and ended the set and the match on a 15-8 stretch.

Peddle finished with 17 kills and 13 digs while Morris racked up 17 assists and three digs.

Stupek totaled 10 digs and three aces as well.

In the middle match of the night, King's Ridge defeated Whitefield 2-1.

The Mount Vernon Athletic Department honored the varsity softball and volleyball seniors prior to the match against King's Ridge.

For softball, MC Springer and Madeline Hudgins were honored in front of the home crowd.

Melina Castellon, Anne Reavely, Mackeznie Morris, Zoe Stupek, Jackie Mecke and Courtney Walsh followed for volleyball.

The Mount Vernon Department of Athletics sincerely thanks the Class of 2019 for their hard efforts and dedications throughout the years.

The Mustangs (20-14) return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 3, traveling to Atlanta International for a region tri-match against Weber and Holy Innocents.

First serve against Weber is scheduled for 6 p.m. with Holy Innocents to follow at 7 p.m.
