ATLANTA - The no. 2 seeded Mount Vernon varsity volleyball team came from behind in thrilling fashion twice on Wednesday night, Oct. 10, knocking off the no. 3 seeded Galloway Scots 2-0 [26-24/25-23] in the AA/A Area-1 Tournament Semifinals at Holy Innocents' Auxiliary Gymnasium.

The first set saw the Mustangs in an early 9-5 hole.

But Mount Vernon battled back to tie the set 9-9 and three more times to a 15-15 score.

Mount Vernon's first lead came at 16-15 and the Mustangs pushed the lead to 18-16 on an Ella Dawson ace.

But the Scots fought back to even the match at 18-18 followed by a 3-1 run to lead 21-19 forcing the Mustangs to take a timeout.

The extra time served well.

Mount Vernon went on a 4-1 spurt to even the set at 23-23 on an ace by Mackenzie Morris.

At 24-24, Mount Vernon secured the final two points necessary to take a 1-0 lead on a Katie Peddle kill and a Maddy Estenson game-winning ace.

In the second set, Mount Vernon went up 15-11 midway through the match only to see the lead slip away when the Scots went on a 6-0 run to lead 17-15.

The Mustangs battled back to even the set at 20-20 but dropped the next three points to trail 23-20.

But the Mustangs rose to the occasion to close out the set and match on a 5-0 run that included a key ace from Peddle.

The Mustangs totaled 74 digs in the match, led by the 29 of Olivia Ramsey and 25 of Peddle.

Mount Vernon tallied 19 assists with a whopping 16 coming from Morris.

The Mustangs finished with 23 kills with Peddle and Anjali Singh leading the squad with 11 and six, respectively.

Estenson dropped in three of Mount Vernon's eight aces as well.

The Mustangs advance to take on the no. 1 seeded Holy Innocents Golden Bears on Thursday, Oct. 11. Holy Innocents defeated Atlanta International 2-0 to advance to the Championship Match.

The best three-of-five match begins at 5 p.m. at Duncan Gymnasium.
