SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The 2018 season came to a close for the no. 15 seeded Mount Vernon varsity softball team on Thursday, Oct. 11, falling to the no. 18 seeded Christian Heritage Lions in a best-of-three game series 11-3 and 12-2 at the Glenn Campus Softball Field.

In Game One, the Lions jumped on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning.

Tessa Hawkins singled to left field to bring home MacKenzie Hoffman for a 1-0 lead.

Mary Kate Humphrey and Hawkins later came around on an error by the Mustang infield for a 3-0 advantage.

Mount Vernon countered in the bottom of the first inning when Bella Dishman smacked a solo home run over the center field wall for a 3-1 game.

The Mustangs tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second inning.

Gracie Hudgins singled to left field to plate Sofia Wise followed by a Savannah Messner fielder's choice to bring in Sarah Schab.

The Lions quickly regained the lead in the top of the third inning when Titiana Chiesa homered to left-center for a 4-3 lead.

Christian Heritage added another run in the top of the fourth inning when Ellie McDonald came home on a throwing error for a 5-3 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Lions added six more runs to put the game out of reach at 11-3 that included RBI singles from Adain Coulter and Macy Smith.

Macy Smith picked up the win in the circle for the Lions, tossing five innings while allowing three runs with three walks and one strikeout.

Kendall Slayden was tagged for the loss for the Mustangs.

Playing as the visiting team in Game Two, the Mustang bats went quiet while the Lions pounced on the opportunity to take the series.

Christian Heritage plated six runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning that included RBI's from Chiesa, Elisa Castello and Ell McDonald.

The Lions posted four more runs in the bottom of the second and another in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 11-0 lead.

Mount Vernon picked up two runs in the top of the fourth, the first coming on a RBI single from Schab to bring home Sofia Wise.

Schab later scored on an infield error by the Lions for a 12-2 game.

Mount Vernon was retired in order in the top of the fifth to seal the win and series for Christian Heritage.
