Volleyball Season Comes to a Close with 3-1 Loss at ELCA in Sweet 16

McDOUNOUGH, Ga. - The 2018 Mount Vernon varsity volleyball season came to a close on Tuesday night in the GHSA Class AA/A Private State Tournament, falling to the Eagle's Landing Christian Academy (ELCA) Chargers 3-1 in the Sweet 16 .

The Mustangs dropped the first set 25-18 before rallying in the second set to win 25-23 in come-from-behind fashion.

In the crucial third set, the Mustangs and Chargers were tied nine times before the Chargers finished the match on an 8-3 run to take a 25-20 victory and a 2-1 match lead.

In the final set, the Mustangs battled to a 9-9 with the Chargers, but fell victims to a 16-5 run as ELCA advanced with a 25-14 win in the best three-of-five series.

Olivia Ramsey and Katie Peddle led the team in digs with 40 and 23. Peddle also added 20 kills in the match.

MacKenzie Morris assisted 25 kills for Mount Vernon, including seven to Maddy Estenson and six to Anjali Singh.

Singh led the team with five blocks and three aces as well.

The Mustangs will graduate five seniors from the 2018 roster: Anne Reavely, MacKenzie Morris, Jackie Mecke, Courtney Walsh and Zoe Stupek.
