SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon eSports team, led by Head Coach Cooper Van Rossum, is off to a strong start for its inaugural 2018 season.
Below is an update on how the Mustangs have faired in early competition.
Fall of 2018 marks "Season Zero" of official, sanctioned High School esports play in Georgia.
Mount Vernon's two teams, Mustangs: PTW and Renegade Mustangs held their first two matches Oct. 30 against public and private schools.
Mustangs: PTW faced off against Colquitt County High School and Calhoun High School, winning both matches to start the season undefeated.
The game against Colquitt County was an impressive quick victory in under 20 minutes. Calhoun, however, put up a challenge and tested the Mustangs throughout the match. But with the help of a late game Baron buff and taking an uncontested infernal drake, the Mustangs were able to rush and overpower Calhoun to take the game.
Renegade Mustangs took advantage of a late game play winning a 5v5 team fight with an Ace, taking Baron, and crashing on the opposing teams Nexus to win from behind against Greater Atlanta Christian. The team fell short in their second game against Atlanta International School.
Mount Vernon is currently working to have future matches streamed using twitch.tv. The Mustangs next matches will be Nov. 13 - opponents are yet to be determined.
