Swimming Recap: 11th Annual Swim & Dive Invite at Cumming Aquatic Center (Nov. 3)

CUMMING, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity swim teams kicked off the 2018-19 season on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Cumming Aquatic Center for the 11th Annual Swim and Dive Invite.

Both squads had a strong showing in the meet and combined for an eighth place finish out of 17 teams that included 6A and 7A schools.

Highlights from the meet include:

-Sophomore Evan Bell took four (4) seconds off his 100 backstroke time to finish at 1:00.88, just missing state cut of 1:00.00.

-Boys 200 Medley Relay of Patrick Casey (Back), Sam Whiting (Breast), Evan Bell (Fly), and August Durlacher (free) outperformed last year by seven (7) seconds to finish 1:51.10, just missing State by .10 seconds.

-Freshman Sam Whiting took third place to beat the State cut by three (3) seconds.

The Mustangs return to the water on Friday, Nov. 9, competing against Wesleyan and Galloway (at Wesleyan) at 5 p.m. in Peachtree Corners, Ga.

Mount Vernon is also in action on Saturday, Nov. 10, partaking in the Early Bird Invite at the Marist School at 9:30 a.m. in Dunwoody, Ga.
