Mustangs to Host Savannah Country Day in First Round of GHSA Class-A Private Football State Tournament

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. – For the second consecutive season, the Mount Vernon varsity football team will open the State Tournament with a home game.

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) released the state playoff brackets for Class-A Private Football on Monday afternoon, Nov. 5, with the Mustangs garnering the no. 16 seed overall in the 24-team field.

Mount Vernon will play host to the Savannah Country Day Hornets (Savannah, Ga.), the no. 17 seed in the tournament, on Friday, Nov. 9, at the Glenn Campus Football Field.

The Mustangs (7-3) and Hornets (7-3) have never faced off against one another according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.

Kickoff for Friday’s first round contest is scheduled for noon (12 p.m.).

Students in grades 7-12 on the Glenn Campus will be dismissed at 11 a.m. for Friday’s game as well.

Admission is $8 for all spectators.

Booster Club passes will not be accepted. Certified staff members who work at the participating schools only will be allowed free admission through the semifinal round with proper identification.

GHSA Coaching passes are also permitted.
