Football Lands Program Best Ten Players on All-Region Team

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The 2018-19 varsity football season came to a close for Mount Vernon earlier this month but now the team is bringing in the accolades for a historic season that saw the Mustangs reach a program best eight wins.

Those accolades include 10 players being named to the GHSA Class-A All-Region 5 Team and the most in program history.

Below is a list of players and their recognition.

1) OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Sr. RB Austin Douglas
Austin rushed for over 1,500 yards on 14 carries while racking up 17 touchdowns in his senior campaign. The James Madison University commit also hauled in eight touchdowns on the receiving end while totaling over 500 yards.

2) FIRST TEAM OFFENSE: Sr. WR Justin Douglas
Austin's twin brother proved to be a lethal threat for the Mustangs as the season progressed. Justin finished season with 1,100 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. He also committed to Southeastern Louisiana University to continue his playing career.

3) FIRST TEAM OFFENSE: Sr. OL Eric Harris

4) FIRST TEAM DEFENSE: Sr. MLB Parker Corley

5) FIRST TEAM DEFENSE: Jr. LB Jonathan Hammond

6) FIRST TEAM DEFENSE: Sr. DB John Watson

7) SECOND TEAM OFFENSE: Soph. WR Andrew Douglas

8) HONORABLE MENTION DEFENSE: Sr. DB Jake Bloodworth

9) HONORABLE MENTION DEFENSE: Sr. DE Will Mitcham

10) HONORABLE MENTON DEFENSE: Sr. DB Hayden Moore

The Mustangs advanced to the GHSA Class-A Private Sweet 16 for a second consecutive season. Mount Vernon also hosted and won a first round game for a second straight year.
