ACWORTH, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity girls and boys basketball teams took to the court on Tuesday night, Dec. 4, squaring off against the Furtah Prep Falcons in non-region play.

In the girls contest, the Mustangs (3-1) took down the Falcons with ease 61-13.

Mount Vernon jumped out to an 18-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 41-7 at halftime.

The Mustangs closed out the final 16 minutes on a 20-6 run to claim the victory.

Katieanne Peterson led all scorers with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

MC Springer added 10 points off the pine while Jessicka Woods dropped in seven.

In the nightcap, the varsity boys fell victim to the Falcons 91-46.

Furtah Prep led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and 49-20 at halftime.

The Falcons ended the game on a 42-26 spurt to run away with the victory.

Morgan Mulrain led the Mustangs in scoring with 15 points, including two 3-pointers.

Jordan Wicker added nine points while Will Mithcam dropped in eight.

Yasim Nabil led the Falcons with 20 points. Teammates Jakario Funches and Taylan Emre totaled 13.

Both squads are back in action on Friday, Dec. 7, traveling to 4A St. Pius to take on the Golden Lions.

Tip off is for the varsity girls is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.
