PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity boys basketball team came up short on Tuesday night, Dec. 11, falling to the Wesleyan Wolves 62-36 at Wesleyan's Yancey Gymnasium.
Both squads battled to a 9-9 draw by the end of the first period, but the Wolves shut down the Mustang offense in the second quarter to finish the half on a 13-3 run and a 22-12 halftime lead.
The Wolves countered a competitive third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 23-16 for a 45-28 edge going into the final period.
Wesleyan would win the fourth quarter 17-8 to seal the win.
Mount Vernon finished with four 3-pointers, led by the two of Justin Douglas, who also led the squad in scoring with 13 points.
Wesleyan was dialed in from long distance as well, knocking in ten 3-pointers.
Micah Smith led all scorers with 19 points, including three 3-pointers.
Chase Hill added 11, Jalen Fulwood totaled 10 and JD Kavel notched 10 points to round out the four players in double-figures for the Wolves.
The Mustangs (3-5) are back in action on Friday, Dec. 14, hosting the Furtah Prep Falcons in a rematch of a game on Dec. 4 that saw Furtah Prep win 91-46.
Tip-off for Friday's contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Glenn Campus Gymnasium.
