SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity girls basketball team dropped its first game of the calendar year on Tuesday night, Jan. 8, falling to the Paideia Pythons 54-37 in region play at the Glenn Campus Gymnasium.

Paideia's Christina Walker and Kai Carter proved to be too much for the Mustangs, combining for 48 of Paideia's 54 points in the contest.

The Pythons led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter and pushed the lead to eight with a 16-15 run in the second period for a 28-20 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Mustang offense struggled to keep up the pace as the Pythons finished the contest on a 26-15 spurt to take the win.

Carter finished with 25 points to lead all scorers while teammate Walker dropped in 23 points.

Katieanne Peterson totaled 11 points to lead the Mustangs.

Jane Holliday added six points while Skyler Tiffin dropped in five points as well.
