ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity wrestling team will travel to Irwin County High School in Ocilla, Ga. for GHSA Sectionals on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 8-9.

Below are the Mustangs that will be competing in the event along with comments from Head Coach Ryan Welch.

Mustang Wrestlers and Weight Class:

William House - 113 lb.
Charlie Hale - 126 lb.
Blake Kytle - 138 lb.
Parker Carman - 145 lb.
Tyler Long - 152 lb.
Sam Landers - 160 lb.
Erik Dodder - 182 lb.
Jonathan Hammond - 220 lb.

"This team has really surprised me with how they have come together to support each other to wrestle hard and perform at their best," Welch said. "Honestly, I did not expect to have nine wrestlers advance to sectionals, and I think that is 100 percent attributable to their hard work and encouragement to one another to pull through to this level. Saying that, I’m excited to see what they are capable of now. It would be great to see everyone advance to State in Macon next week"

Added Welch: "A large part of wrestling is showing up, making weight and being ready to wrestle. Rest assured, the Mustangs will be ready to wrestle in Irwin County tomorrow afternoon. "
