Girls Soccer Blanks Strong Rock 10-0 En Route to Third Straight Victory

LOCUST GROVE, Ga - The Mount Vernon varsity girls soccer team (3-0) knocked off the Strong Rock Christian Patriots 10-0 on the road on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 12, to push its winning streak to three games.

The Mustangs have now outscored opponents 27-1 over the season's first three matches.

The Mustangs started the scoring quickly just two minutes into the match when Madeline Hudgins assisted Emma Markland for a goal and a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Audrey O'Toole sent a cross to Gracie Hudgins who knocked it in for a 2-0 advantage.

Gracie Hudgins picked up four more goals within the next 11 minutes to give the Mustangs a commanding 6-0 lead.

Ella Ruth Campbell, Hannah Hagenau, and O'Toole all picked up assists in the scoring barrage by Gracie Hudgins as well.

The final goal of the first half came via Brooke Benn on a deflection with 20 minutes to play in the first period for 7-0 Mount Vernon edge.

The Mustangs scored three goals in a shortened second period. Benn found the back of the next twice while Madeline Hudgins scored the tenth and final goal.

Gracie Hudgins assisted two of the final three goals as well.

The Mustangs are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 14, traveling to King's Ridge to take on the Tigers.

Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Alpharetta, Ga.
