Mustangs Push Winning Streak to Six with 15-0 Victory at Henry County

McDONOUGH, Ga. - After a thrilling 4-3 walk-off win against St. Francis on Saturday, the Mount Vernon varsity baseball team pushed its winning streak to six games with a decisive 15-0 four inning victory at Henry County High School on Monday afternoon, Feb. 25.

The Mustangs jumped on the Warhawks early, plating four runs in the top of the first inning.

Mount Vernon's first run came via a passed ball that allowed Trez Gonzalez for a 1-0 lead.

Later in the frame, Jackson Denney scored on another passed ball followed by a Warhawk infield error to bring in Jack Sims and Cole Forrest.

Mount Vernon added six runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach.

Gonzalez scored on an infield error, Alex VanLandingham singled home Nate Anderson, Denney singled to plate VanLandingham, and Sims reached on a dropped third strike to score Denney.

The final two runs in the inning came on a bases loaded walk to Alex Thomas to bring home Sims followed by a Gonzalez bases loaded free pass to plate Charlie Baynton for a 10-0 Mustang edge.

The Mustangs added three runs in the third inning, the first coming on a Sims double to center field to bring in VanLandingham.

Later in the inning, Bayton smashed a double to left field to plate Sims. Baynton later came around to score on a balk for a 13-0 lead.

Mount Vernon brought the run-rule into effect in the fourth inning, scoring two runs in the top of the inning and retiring the side in the bottom half.

Alex Mette scored on another Warhawk balk and Sims came home on a passed ball for a 15-0 lead.

Clayton Wright picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs, tossing two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two batters.

Jackson Denney followed up with two innings of scoreless relief pitching and picked up two strikeouts as well.

The Mustangs return to the field on Tuesday, Feb. 25, traveling to Eagles Landing Christian Academy for a match-up against the Chargers.

First pitched is scheduled for 6 p.m. in McDonough, Ga.
