FAYETTEVILLE, Ga - The Mount Vernon varsity baseball team propelled its winning streak to 10 games on Monday afternoon, knocking off the Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats 20-2 in three innings.
The Mustang bats came alive early, putting up 12 runs in the top of the first inning.
Mount Vernon added three more runs in the second inning and five in the third frame while allowing just two runs to bring the run-rule into effect for the road win.
Jake Bloodworth led the Mustangs with five RBI's including a single and triple in the first inning, a single in the second inning, and a fielder's choice in the third frame.
Jack Sims and Alex Thomas each drove in three runs for Mount Vernon while Alex Mette plated two.
Mount Vernon outhit Our Lady of Mercy 16-1. Nine Mustangs recorded at least one hit in the win.
Clayton Wright (3-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.
The righty recorded four strikeouts and allowed one walk while limiting the Bobcats to just one hit. All runs scored by the Bobcats were unearned as well.
Mount Vernon (10-0, 4-0 Reg. 5-1A) returns to action on Thursday, March 21, hosting the Landmark Christian War Eagles in another key region contest.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Glenn Campus Baseball Field.
