ATLANTA - Senior Parker Corley signed a national letter of intent to play football at Washington and Lee University on Monday, May 13 on Mount Vernon's Glenn Campus inside the Upper School Building.

Corley is the fifth member of the Class of 2019 to play a sport at the next level. He joins Austin Douglas (Football-JMU), Justin Douglas (Football-SLU), Tres Gonzalez (Baseball-Georgia Tech) and Zoe Stupek (Volleyball-Bucknell).

"I'm really excited to become a General," Corley said. "The biggest thing for me has always been the ability to push myself and I believe that going to Washington and Lee will allow me to do that academically and as a player."

Corley totaled 186 rushing yards in senior campaign and averaged 18.6 yards per game rushing. He also picked up two rushing touchdowns in helping lead Mount Vernon to an 8-4 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark at home.

Under center as the primary back-up, Corley was 4-of-5 passing with 45 yards.

"Parker has brought great memories and joy to everyone's life in the Mount Vernon community," Head Football Coach Wayne Dabbs said. "He has been a consistent leader, a committed athlete, and an incredible young man of true character. We are excited for what's to come at the next level for him and his family."

Added Corley: "I will always remember the relationships I have built with everyone here at Mount Vernon," Corley said. "I've learned a lot in the classroom and I've also learned how to show love and compassion for people. I hope that continues at the next level."

Washington and Lee is a NCAA Division III program competing in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

The Generals finished the 2018 campaign 5-4 overall with a 3-4 record in league play.
