ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Athletic Department is pleased to announce that Robert Jenkins has been named the head coach for the varsity girls and boys swimming and diving programs for the 2019-20 academic year.
"As the new head coach, I bring passion, accountability, and attention to detail. I bring diversity, versatility and high expectations with an emphasis on servant leadership and a responsibility to give back to the community," Jenkins said.
Jenkins is no stranger to the water, having learned from his father at an early age followed by a successful swim career at Florida A&M.
"My dad was an age group and high school swim coach. I began swimming and teaching swimming at an early age. I was very successful in high school and earned a swimming scholarship to college," Jenkins said. "In high school, I swam Backstroke, Butterfly, and Freestyle. In college, I swam Butterfly, Individual Medley, and Freestyle. I have coached and taught swimming for over three decades."
Jenkins said the opportunity to build an elite program and having talented student-athletes was a major deciding factor in coming to Mount Vernon.
"Mount Vernon is an excellent opportunity to take the team to the next level and build a successful program. The student-athletes at Mount Vernon are very talented and driven. I am super excited about working with them," Jenkins said.
As Jenkins is welcomed into the Mount Vernon community, he already has set high goals for the upcoming season.
"I'd like to improve the ability and confidence of each swimmer and diver, conduct a community service project and team activity every month of the season and have fun," Jenkins said.
