Cross Country Recap: Into the Trail Meet

LOCUST GROVE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity girls and boys cross country teams opened the 2019 season this past weekend, competing at the Into the Trail Meet hosted by Locust Grove High School on Saturday, August 17.

The varsity girls finished fifth out of seven teams with 113 points while the varsity boys posted a sixth place finish out of 10 schools with 127 points.

The varsity girls were led by Emily Raeside's fourth place finish overall at 21:04.

Audrey O'Toole notched a Top-10 finish as well, crossing the finish line in tenth overall at 22:29.

Taylor Keller took 33rd overall at 25:40 to round out Mount Vernon's top finishers.

The varsity boys were paced by the 13th place from Ryan Rapaport at 18:43.

Sean Pierce came in a few second later at 15th, clocking in at 18:46 as well.

"It really does feel great to finally have a meet under our belts," Head Coach Sam Baroody said. " We've worked extremely hard to get to this point, and we were excited to see what everyone had in them this past weekend."

"On the whole, we were very pleased with what we saw, but we recognize that we can--and will--get better," Baroody added.

The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, August 24 at the Saucony Battle of Invitational in Hampton, Ga.

The varsity boys will kick things off at 7:30 a.m. followed by the varsity girls at 8:00 a.m.
