Softball Takes Road Contest at Mt. Pisgah, 4-2

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team came away with a road victory on Tuesday afternoon, August 20, taking down the 1A Mt. Pisgah Patriots 4-2 at the Patriot Athletic Complex.

Mt. Pisgah opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Tori Dalton doubled home Grace Hudson for an early 1-0 advantage.

Mount Vernon responded and took a brief 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning.

Savanna Messner tripled to score Karley Crim followed by a Bella Dishman single to plate Messner.

The Patriots evened the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Erin Parker crossed the dish after a Mustang infield error.

The Mustangs took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning and held serve defensively the rest of the game to earn the victory.

Jane Holliday grounded out to shortstop to score Messner followed by a Sarah Schab single to plate Dishman for a 4-2 lead.

Sarah Schab picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs.

The righty tossed seven innings, allowing two runs while striking out seven batters and allowing no walks.

The Mustangs out-hit the Patriots 10-7 and did not commit an error in the field.

Mount Vernon (3-3) returns to the diamond on Wednesday, August 21, hosting the 5A Riverwood Raiders.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Upper Campus Softball Field.
