Mustangs Cruise to 11-1 Victory Over Miller Grove Wolverines

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team snapped a two-game slide on Tuesday afternoon, August 27, defeating the 5A Miller Grove Wolverines 11-1 in five innings at the Upper Campus Softball Field.

Mount Vernon took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Bella Dishman scored on an infield throwing error by the Wolverines.

After a scoreless second frame, Miller Grove evened the contest at 1-1 in the top of the third inning.

But the Mustangs took the lead for good in the bottom of the third, plating seven runs for an 8-1 advantage.

Dishman doubled home Karley Crim and Savanna Messner, Jane Holliday doubled to bring in Dishman, and Sarah Schab singled home Jane Holliday to go up 5-1.

Later in the inning, Ruby Burnett doubled to left field to plate Schab, Carson Watson tripled to right field to score Burnett and Crim reached on an infield error to allow Watson to come home for an 8-1 lead.

The Mustangs added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Holliday scored on a passed ball. Schab came in on an infield error followed by a Burnett double to center field to score Kendall Slayden for an 11-1 edge.

The Mustangs retired the side in the top of the fifth to force the run-rule and claim the victory.

Mount Vernon returns to action on Thursday, August 29, hosting Strong Rock.

First pitch against the Patriots is set for 5 p.m. at the Upper Campus Softball Field.
