Second Half Surge Sends Mustangs Past Mt. Pisgah Patriots, 48-21

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity football team picked up its first victory on Friday night, August 30, coming from 14 behind in the second half to defeat the Mt. Pisgah Patriots 48-21 at the Patriot Athletic Campus.

Trailing 21-7 early in the third quarter, the Mustangs put up 41 unanswered points while the defense held the Patriots at bay to take the victory.

Altogether, the Mustangs outscored the Patriots 41-7 over the final two periods.

Quarterback Blake Kytle led the charge for the Mustangs, completing 15-of-21 passes for 219 yards and five touchdowns.

Those touchdown recipients included Andrew Douglas while Skylar Early, Alex Holliday, and Coulton Musser.

Early also picked up a rushing touchdown as well.

Douglas also returned a punt for a 60-yard touchdown in the midst of Mount Vernon going ahead for good.

Early led the team in rushing (82) and receiving (133) yards for a total of 215 yards on the night.

The Mustangs return home to face First Presbyterian Day (FPD) on Friday, Sept. 6.

Mount Vernon (1-1) defeated the Vikings in Macon, Ga. last season 41-17.

FPD most recently fell 42-21 to the Howard Huskies at home on August 30.

Kickoff for Friday's contest is scheduled for 4:45 at the Upper Campus Football Field.
