Mustangs Charge Past Galloway Scots for First Region Win, 16-1

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team picked up its first region win of the year on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 5, defeating the Galloway School Scots 16-1 in three innings at the Upper Campus Softball Field.

Mount Vernon led 3-1 after the first inning, 9-1 after the second frame and scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to bring the run-rule into effect.

Savanna Messner, Bella Dishman, Sarah Schab and Carson Watson each picked up two RBI's in the winning effort.

Messner hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the first inning, her third of 2019 campaign.

The Mustangs out-hit Galloway 14-1 en route to the victory.

Messner led the way going 3-for-3 with three runs scored as well.

Kendall Slayden picked up the win in the circle.

The righty tossed three innings, allowing one run on one hit while picking up two strikeouts.

The Mustangs (7-6, 1-3 Reg. 5-1a) return to action on Saturday, Sept. 7, taking on Blessed Trinity and St. Pius.

Both games will be played at St. Pius.

First pitch against Blessed Trinity is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. followed by St. Pius at 12:30 p.m.
