ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team pushed its winning streak to three games on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 17, defeating the 6A Centennial High School Knights 9-0 in five innings at the Upper Campus Softball Field.

After a scoreless first inning, the Mustangs took the lead for good in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on six hits.

Lauren Waters singled home Karley Crim, Kendall Slayden cleared the bases with a double to score three, and Whitney Dishman doubled home Slayden and Sarah Schab.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Mustangs padded their lead, scoring three runs for a 9-0 advantage.

Crim scored on a passed ball for an 8-0 advantage followed by sacrifice fly to center by Slayden to plate Savanna Messner for a 9-0 lead.

The Mustangs held the Knights scoreless for the final two innings to bring the run-rule into effect, ending the game on a groundout double play.

Schab picked up the win in the circle, allowing just one hit while striking out 11 batters.

The Mustangs (11-8) return to the diamond on Thursday, Sept. 19, for a Region 5-1A contest at Landmark Christian.

First pitch against the War Eagles is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Fairburn, Ga.
