ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity girls volleyball team swept its competition on Wednesday night, defeating the Weber Rams 2-0 followed by a key 2-1 victory over rival Holy Innocents at Atlanta International School.

With the two wins, the Mustangs have now won 10 straight matches dating back to Sept. 19.

After an easy victory over Weber, Mount Vernon dropped the first set to Holy Innocents 23-25.

The Mustangs regrouped late the second set, though.

Tied at 18, Mount Vernon rattled off seven straight points to take the second set 25-18 to force a decisive third set.

Playing to 15 in the final set, Mount Vernon trailed 6-3 but rallied to tie the match at 9-9.

From that point, the Mustangs went on a 6-3 run to take the set 15-12 and win the match outright 2-1.

With the victory, the Mustangs (25-10) will be the no. 1 seed in the Area 1 AA/A Private Tournament, scheduled to begin next week at Holy Innocents.

Opponents and match times will be announced in the coming days.
